BULLET TRAIN, 1934

Record-breaking Bullet Train shoot thru Toledo. Shattering all records for a transcontinental rail speed dash, the Union Pacific's bullet-nosed, fin-tailed, Diesel-powered, streamlined, canary and brown, aluminum alloy train flashed into the Union station Wednesday night, changed pilots, and shot eastward to New York. A crowd of several hundred men, women and children came to the station to catch a momentary glimpse of the train It arrived at 8:16pm on October 24, 1934, two minutes ahead of its own schedule. The California-to-New York run was completed in two days, eight hours and 55 minutes, more than 15 hours less than the record. Toledo News-Bee file photo dated Oct. 25, 1934.
