#mondaymemories: Now that’s a wrong turn At the edge of Laskey Road near Lewis Avenue, unsuspecting Joseph Lytle, 72, of Temperance found himself, and his vehicle, in quite a predicament. This unlikely scene on March 28, 1962 is a #bladephoto by Carl Gifford. Mr. Lytle was trying to avoid a huge mound of sand in the traffic lane of Laskey. He attempted to steer around the sand mound and took a sudden drop into an excavation that was 6 feet deep, 15 feet wide, and 20 feet long. Police said Peirce Construction Co. had dug the hole for a county water line installation and failed to barricade it off. Mr. Lytle was treated at Parkview Hospital for minor injuries.

Back in 1913 one of the important Sunday afternoon pastimes was watching the motorcycle races at the old fairground at Dorr Street and Upton Avenue. Excitement reached a high pitch each time the referee and judges lined up contestants at the starting line. Dust clouds filled the air behind the contestants as they rounded the turns at the old fairgrounds track as the early "flying machines" soared along the oval track in front of large crowds gathered to watch the races.
